Meetings: Meets the 2nd Friday of each month, 8:00am-9:30am .
Location: Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mission Statement:
Influence the political process in a manner which promotes policies and programs that stimulate economic growth with particular emphasis on local issues.
Guiding Principles:
The Committee encourages elected officials to work with the business community to bolster the economy and improve our regional competitiveness nationally and globally. We encourage cooperation and partnerships among government, education, business and civic groups. Each year your Chamber's Government Affairs Committee outlines focus issues based on the following guidelines.
The issues addressed by the Committee are those that:
Involve or pertain to the business community as a whole
Impact more than a substantial portion of the Chamber membership
Influence the overall economic development of the area
Impact an entire business sector such as manufacturing, services or tourism/retail
Impact the entire business climate
Public positions and support statements will be given when the issues meet the above guidelines. For those issues that don't meet the above guidelines, we offer assistance by providing appropriate networking contacts with other stakeholder organizations, government agencies, representatives or community leaders.
Strategies:
- Educate and engage members on issues and candidates.
- Encourage business friendly government and political leadership education.
- Act as liaison between Chamber members and local, state, and federal officials.
- Develop close working relationships with elected officials so as to proactively influence policy and programs.
- Develop positions for review and consideration by Board of Directors.

Tactics:
- Provide timely updates to the membership on current issues and call to action issues as necessary.
- Committee participation in the planning and coordination of annual Legislative Breakfast.
- Meet with local officials and participate on advisory councils.
- Committee participation in planning and coordination of annual Candidate Information Workshop.
- Continue developing rapport with targeted legislators and government officials through regular contact.
- Step up focus on Muskegon County Commissioners by ensuring regular contact with commissioners. Request copies of annual meeting calendar and establish meetings of priority.
- Provide necessary reports and presentations to the Board of Directors for considerations.
